Contribution Limits
How much can you give?
Georgia Public Service Commission is a statewide office. Each contributor — whether an individual, corporation, labor union, PAC, or political party — may give up to the following amounts per election.
Primary Election
$8,400
Per source, for the May 19 Republican primary
General Election
$8,400
Per source, for the November 3 general election
Runoff (if needed)
$4,800
Per source, for any primary or general runoff
Each election counts separately. A single contributor may give the primary limit, and — if the campaign advances — the general and runoff limits as well.
Why these amounts apply to the PSC race
Public Service Commission is a statewide office under Georgia law.
Even though each commissioner represents a numbered district, all five Public Service Commission seats are filled by voters across the entire state. Every registered Georgia voter who casts a Republican ballot in the May 19 primary, or a ballot in the November general election, votes on the District 5 seat — regardless of the commissioner’s home district.
Under O.C.G.A. § 21-5-41, candidates for “state-wide elected office” are subject to the same higher contribution limits ($8,400 / $8,400 / $4,800) that apply to Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Commissioner of Agriculture, Commissioner of Insurance, Commissioner of Labor, State School Superintendent, and Justices of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. Public Service Commissioners fit the statutory definition of “state-wide elected office” and are treated identically.
The lower contribution limits ($3,300 / $3,300 / $1,800) apply only to candidates for offices not elected by statewide vote — state senators, state representatives, and county or municipal offices. The Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission (ethics.ga.gov/contribution-limits) publishes and enforces these limits.
