Good to know

A few things about Georgia’s primary.

Public Service Commission seats are elected statewide. Even though each commissioner represents a district, all registered Georgia voters choose from the same ballot. That means your vote for PSC District 5 counts whether you live in Atlanta, Brunswick, Clayton, or Blue Ridge.

Georgia has open primaries. You do not register by party. When you show up to vote, ask for the Republican ballot and you’ll receive it. You can vote the Republican ballot in this primary even if you voted Democratic last time.

During early voting (April 27 – May 15), you may vote at any early-voting site in your county of residence. Hours and locations vary by county. On election day (May 19), you must vote at your assigned precinct between 7 AM and 7 PM.

If you request an absentee ballot, the Georgia Secretary of State must receive your application at least 11 days before the election. Completed absentee ballots must be received by 7:00 PM on May 19 — postmark does not count.
